Housing

The refurbishment of existing unoccupied council-owned or -leased properties should be immediate.

We must encourage development of affordable housing in Galway City to achieve the density goals required by Project Ireland 2040.

Rent Pressure Zones in the city must be reviewed, with security of tenure and solid leases embedded in policy.

I have raised the issue of short-term lettings through digital sites, and resources for regulation must be allocated at a local level.

Direct Provision for asylum seekers was supposed to be a six-month interim measure before refugee status was approved or denied, and future society will look back at it as a shameful scandal.  Applicants must be given fair timelines.

Landlords and resident associations need to be assisted by council resources when faced with anti-social behaviour.

As a member of the Galway City Housing Committee

  • I will continue to highlight the refurbishment of existing unoccupied council owned or leased properties as a priority.

  • I have worked and will work on the development of affordable housing in Galway City in order to achieve the density goals required by Project Ireland 2040.

  • Rent Pressure Zones in City must be reviewed, with security of tenure and leases driven in policy.

  • I have raised the issue of Long Term/Short Term lettings through digital sites, this needs to be given resources at local level within the housing and planning departments.

  • The needs of those living in Direct Provision to be supported .

  • Communities who are faced with anti social behaviour to be supported by City Council and Garda.
